The 2024 Greentech Startup Challenge is now open for registration until May 31st

Purpose of the Challenge

In order to assist the development of new green technology innovations, and in accordance with the Regulations of the Ministry of Economic Affairs on Subsidy, Incentives and Counseling for Industrial Innovation Activities, Small and Medium Enterprise and Startup Administration (SMESA), Ministry of Economic Affairs organizes the Greentech Startup Challenge competition. The SMESA implements this jointly with the Startup Terrace and Startup Terrace Kaohsiung – the two international entrepreneurial clusters in Taiwan, inviting large enterprises to propose topics on green technology covering: zero carbon emissions, and other green technology-related issues. Furthermore, the global trend toward net-zero emissions is also creating increasing demand for green solutions from international cities. Therefore, this year’s Greentech Startup Challenge specially invites international cities that are concerned with the development of net-zero emissions to participate in proposing topics. The Challenge framework will then be divided into the Enterprise Category and the City Category. Through selection and mentorship mechanisms, startups with innovative solutions will collaborate with major enterprises or cities to co-create value and expand market opportunities.

Application Period：Applications are being accepted immediately till 23:59 on May 31, 2024 (Friday).

Challenge Eligibility

  • New startup enterprises (below, “startups”) that meet with the Standards for Identifying Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and were established after May 31, 2016
  • The applicants with any of the following conditions are not eligible; if they are found to be in violation, their applications will be returned, any winning status will be rescinded, and any subsidy for the verification cost will be demanded back:
  • A suspension has been imposed by any government agency for the execution of the government program and the period of suspension has not yet expired.
  • Non-payment of taxes owed.
  • Repeated application using the same proposal has received awards or subsidies from Taiwan government agencies; or is entitled to receive any tax incentives, awards, or subsidies under other laws and regulations.
  • PRC enterprises, as published by Department of Investment Review, Ministry of Economic Affairs.
  • Enterprises that have received national awards in the startup category from government agencies within the past 5 years are not subject to the aforementioned year-of-establishment eligibility restriction (if this is the case, the proof of award must be provided to the implementer). Such national awards include the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Business Startup Awards, Taiwan SME Innovation Awards, National Industrial Innovation Awards, TREE Awards, NSTC Taiwan Germination Program, Startup Island TAIWAN NEXT BIG, etc. 【Only for City Category】

Prize Details

  • Enterprise Category: Startups that pass the Semi-Final round will be Finalists, and will receive subsidy for verification cost of NT$200,000. Winner Startups that pass the Final round will receive an additional NT$600,000 subsidy for the verification cost. The maximum total verification cost available are NT$800,000.
  • City Category：Startups that pass the Semi-Final round will be Finalists, and will receive subsidy for verification cost of NT$200,000. Winner Startups that pass the Final round will receive an additional NT$600,000 subsidy for the verification cost. The maximum total verification cost available are NT$800,000.Moreover, Finalists are fully participate in the finals round can apply for an additional NT$100,000 in international business development assistance funds with implementer. The maximum total verification cost available are NT$800,000.
