Taiwanese Startups Prepare to Pitch at Three Major Asian Conferences
Leaders from 14 Taiwanese startups will make pitches for venture capital next month at some of Asia’s major conferences.
They got spots at the conferences after winning a Rock the Mic Asia competition last month in Taipei. Taiwan Startup Stadium, a government-supported service that helps give local startups foreign exposure, organized the competition.
One winner will represent Taiwan at the 2018 Infinity Ventures Summit. Five startups will head to the Techsauce Global Summit, and eight will show at the RISE Summit.
Their founders won Rock the Mic Asia by giving pitches in English in under two minutes with no slides or product demos. Judges included Taiwan Startup Stadium general manager Holly Harrington, Japanese venture capital firm Infinity Ventures partner Joseph Huang and Techsauce Media founder Oranuch Lerdsuwankij.
Infinity Ventures Summit
The Infinity Ventures Summit scheduled for June 6-8 will connect startups with Japanese and international investors. It’s usually held in Tokyo but will take place this year in Taipei.
About 500 startup entrepreneurs and CEOs from East Asia will attend the event. More than NT$10 billion (US$334 million) in funds will be available at the event for the “cultivation” of a fast-growing, profitable Taiwanese startup, according to this description.
The Rock the Mic panel choose H30, a startup that uses big data analytics and natural language processing to create chat bots which enable brands to better communicate with their customer base.
Techsauce Global Summit
A second conference, Techsauce Global Summit, offers startups the chance to meet over 50 investors from Thailand’s corporate venture capital scene. This year the event set for June 22-23 is among Southeast Asia’s fastest growing tech conferences. The event is in its sixth year and is set to attract more than 10,000 people.
Heading to Bangkok for this event next month are leaders from five Taiwanese startups. They include an ecommerce platform that lets users convert leftover foreign currency and an internet-of-things startup that designs interactive lighting to alert restaurant wait staffers of empty glasses on tables.
Also attending will be Clef Technology, an IoT firm specialized in the early detection of pipe leakage, video streaming platform ReCactus and big-data retail analytics startup SkyRec.
Organizers from Web Summit in Europe are getting behind RISE Summit,already one of Asia’s major tech events, and plan to grow it to new heights. According to Startup Europe, Web Summit is the world’s largest tech conference with 70,000 people set to attend in November.
The RISE Summit, scheduled in Hong Kong from July 9-13, expects more than 15,000 attendees, and it will give startups access to media coverage from over 150 markets.
Major company executives as well as startups will share experiences. Hundreds of investors will also be available for networking.
The five teams representing Taiwan at the Techsauce Global Summit will also go to RISE.
Another three will join them. They are the e-learning portal Hahow, computer graphics technology firm Pi Square and indoor positioning system Spatial Topology.
